Draupadi Sharanagathi
– Rishi Gnanavel from Toronto, Canada.
Sri Krishna made the desert land given to pandavas to a very beautiful greenish place called Indraprasatham . Yudishtira became the king of this Indraprasatham. Kauravas were not happy about this. While Duryodhana visited the wonderful palace of Indraprasta for Rajasuya yajna , he fell into a magical pond and everyone laughed at him, including Draupadi. Duryodhana felt so humiliated.
His uncle Shakuni was too good at playing dice games, so Duryodhana and his uncle planned for dice games with pandavas and to get back all their possessions. Vidura was sent to invite pandavas to visit a place built by Kauravas. The dice game started between Yudhishtira and Shakuni. No one in the palace came forward to stop the dice game. The game started and Yudhishtira kept his possessions one by one and started losing them. After losing all his material possessions , Shakuni forced him to bet on his brothers and he lost them in the game too.
Now Shakuni tricked Yudhishtira’s mind to bet on Draupadi, everyone in the palace was shocked by this decision of Yudhishtira. He lost her in the cheating game of Shakuni. Duryodhana ordered his brother Dhushasana to call Draupadi to the court . When Draupadi hesitated to come , Dhushasana dragged her holding her hair. People watching this were so shocked to see this.
Draupadi was brought to the center of the court , she looked at all the elders sitting over there and asked “Do you all think what’s happening here is the right thing?” Being ashamed, all the elders put their heads down. Karna instructed Dhushasana to humiliate Draupadi and pandavas by disrobing her.
When Dhushasana dragged Draupadi’s saree , she tried to save herself but when it was not possible to save herself, she surrendered to the Lord and shouted “Govinda, Govinda,Govinda…..” Knowing Lord Krishna alone can save her. Though Lord Krishna was in Dwaraka , He answered her prayers. Sarees kept on coming and Dhushasana got tired of pulling the saree and fell down.
she surrendered to the Lord and shouted “Govinda, Govinda,Govinda…..” Knowing Lord Krishna alone can save her. Though Lord Krishna was in Dwaraka , He answered her prayers
Dritharashtra understood that Draupadi had Lord’s blessings and convinced her saying that she was a good daughter in law and wanted to bless her with boons of releasing the pandavas. This tells us that if we surrender to Bhagavan He will save us and take care of us.
